Coppell is one of the newer cities in Texas, having been formerly incorporated in 1955, although the area was first settled back in the 1880s. The completion of railway lines through the community in the late nineteenth century helped the small city grow and participate in more widespread commerce. Today, the city has swelled to a modest population of 40,000 and provides enough jobs in town and close to home to keep the unemployment rate well below the national average.

The Coppell Independent School District includes one public high school and a handful of elementary and middle schools, all extremely well rated on both state and national levels.
